The Bad Seed            By:  Jory John            Illustrated by:  Pete Oswald

Ages:  Pre-school through Second Grade

The sunflower seed in our story wasn’t always bad, but when he was bad, he was really bad.  The good news is that the Bad Seed figured out that he could change his behavior.  He wasn’t always perfect, but he was no longer “The Bad Seed”.  This is a great book for children to see how behaviors can be changed and that it’s okay if we aren’t always perfect.

Nigel and the Moon           By:  Antwan Eady            Illustrated by:  Gracey Zhang

Ages:  Preschool through Second Grade

In this beautiful book, Nigel tells the moon about his dreams of being a dancer, an astronaut or even a super hero, but he cannot say these dreams out loud.  During career week at school, he becomes even more afraid to express his dreams and is embarrassed that his parents do not have fancy jobs.  This story has a great ending and Nigel is finally able to express his dreams to his class.  This is a special story and a must read.

Double Puppy Trouble            By:  Danica McKellar            Illustrated by:  Josee Masse

Ages:  Preschool through Third Grade

This fun book by Danica McKellar is another exploration in math, which she does so well.  This time the concept is the doubling of numbers.  In our story Moxie always wants more of everything.  She finds a magic stick which allows her to double all the things that she likes.  Unfortunately, the magic stick got stuck and kept doubling her dog Max.  With the help of Moxie’s little brother, the spell was broken and things returned to normal.  Not only does this book provide math practice, it is also just a wonderful story.

In our story, the playful pup was having the Best Day Ever until things started going wrong, really wrong.  Even though he got into a lot of trouble, bad things can be forgiven and it can become the Best Day Ever again. You will fall in love with this sweet puppy.  This fun book is done in rhyming verse.

In our story, Buddy’s best friend moved across town and will no longer be in his class at school.  Buddy has to figure out how to find a new “buddy”.  This is a heartwarming story about finding common ground and making new friends.  This would be a wonderful book for children as they enter a new school year.

In this amazing book, LeBron James asks children to make a promise to be the very best person that they can become.  The text is in rhyming form and the illustrations are extraordinary.  The author’s words are very inspirational, not just for children, but for all who read it.  Put this one on your read-aloud list.

If you are a Tik Tok  user, you will be very familiar with Noodle the Pug and his friend Jonathan.  They are quite successful at determining the kind of day it will be, either a “bones” day or a “no bones” day.  As it turns out, either kind of day can be a good one.  We are so pleased that Jonathan put this sweet story into a children’s book.  You will fall in love with Noodle and Jonathan and please check them out on Tik Tok.

The Superpower Sisterhood           By:  Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Pierce Bush           Illustrated by:  Cyndi Wojciechowski

Ages:  Preschool through Second Grade

This beautiful book gives us all insight on the power of “sisterhood”.  This story is about a group of girls in a neighborhood who bonded together, like real sisters, to do good work.  It also reveals the power and the importance of reaching out to others and the wonderful things that can happen when you do.   This lovely story demonstrates inclusion and community.  A must read!
