This fun book is perfect to begin the Thanksgiving season.  The turkey in our story is part of the school’s Thanksgiving program, but he gets stage fright and tries to escape.  After being chased throughout the school, he returns to the stage and becomes the star.  The book is done in rhyming verse and the illustrations are amazing.

We have already presented to you the wonderful book, “Duck Soup”.  Well, this story tells us how Max, the duck, came to live with Irene and her friends.  Poor Max made the bad decision to stay back, as his flock flew south for the winter.  Fortunately, Irene decided to take him out of the cold.  However, it took awhile for Irene and her friends to adjust to their new family member.  This is such a fun book and you will fall in love with Max.

This is such a fun book and perfect to read to children on the night before Halloween.  The little old lady was not afraid of anything.  One evening, she is put to the test as she is walking home and it is starting to get dark.   In the end, all of the scary things that she encountered came together and everything worked out just as it should.  This is a great book for letting children predict what they think is going to happen next.  A must read for Halloween.

Stumpkin was one of many pumpkins in the store window, waiting to be picked to become a jack-o-lantern.   Even though he was a perfectly shaped pumpkin, unfortunately, he didn’t have a stem.  Halloween finally came and Stumpkin was the only pumpkin left.  Don’t worry, this story has a very happy ending and is a truly beautiful book.  Please don’t miss this one!

Duck Soup, a New York Times bestseller, is a must read!  It is a sequel to Duck at the Door , which we will highlight very soon.  In our story, Max the Duck is making soup for his family and leaves the house to get herbs.   His animal family become convinced that he is lost in the large kettle of soup and want to save him.  Chaos ensues!  The family ended up having pizza for dinner.  This is such a fun book and should not be missed.

This absolutely adorable story is about a very clever gorilla and how he tricks the zookeeper.  Children will need to follow the story by looking at the pictures to see what is really happening.  A bonus attraction is to have them look for the mouse and the banana in every picture.  This fun book illustrates the importance of using book illustrations to help in the reading process, which is a vital literacy skill.

Chicken Little               Retold and Illustrated by:  Steven Kellogg

Ages:  Kindergarten through Third Grade

 

 

This classic fable has been retold many times, but no one does it better than Steven Kellogg.  His amazing illustrations bring this story to life.  A little acorn set off this big adventure where all of the animals believe that the “sky is falling”.   In the end, the acorn grew into a beautiful oak tree for Chicken Little and her family to enjoy.

Where The Wild Things Are is another classic which appears on every book list.  In our story, Max  works through his feelings by engaging in a fantasy about amazing monsters.  In the end, he returns back to the reality and safety of his room and a warm supper waiting for him.  This is a great book to allow children to express their feelings and expand their imaginations.

I Am Enough is an amazing inspirational book, and should be read to children over and over.  It is actually a great book for any age.  The author, Grace Byers, uses common words to describe what we aspire to be:  “Like the sun, I’m here to shine.  Like the voice, I’m here to sing.  Like the bird, I’m here to fly and soar high over everything”.  The illustrations are beyond beautiful and perfect for this exceptional book.
