It is important that we take time to celebrate teachers and how important they are to all of us.   Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse, highlights the actions of a great teacher.  In our story, Lilly loves her teacher, Mr. Slinger, and she wants to be just like him.  Things change for Lilly when she cannot wait to share her purple plastic purse and other items with her class.  Through the support of Mr. Slinger, Lilly learns important lessons such as how to be considerate and the effects of our actions on others.  Please remember to celebrate the teachers in your life!

The Dinosaur series are wonderful books that cover a number of important issues that parents might have with their child’s behavior.  How Dinosaurs Say Good Night? describes incorrect bedtime behavior and correct behavior.  The lesson is an easy one when you watch a huge dinosaur acting it out.  The story is done in rhyming verse and the illustrations are extraordinary.  If you enjoy this dinosaur story, make sure to check out the other titles.

This is a story about a very clever little mouse who tricks a fox, an owl, a snake and eventually the Gruffalo.  The author of this wonderful book also wrote one of our favorite Halloween stories, Room on the Broom.  This delightful book is done in rhyming verse and promotes vocabulary development.  You will enjoy this journey with mouse and The Gruffalo.

Little Raindrop (Nature Stories)

Ages:  Preschool through First Grade

 

 

This delightful book helps children understand the cycle of how rain drops float to the earth, help plants to grow and then float back into the clouds to begin the cycle over again.  Little Raindrop also teaches us how a rainbow is formed.  It is done in rhyming verse and is very understandable, even for very young children.  It is also beautifully illustrated.  This is a must read for Springtime.

Our favorite turkey from Turkey Trouble is back.  This time Turkey wants to participate in the Easter egg hunt, but animals aren’t allowed.  With the help of the other farm animals, Turkey decides to disguise himself in order to go unnoticed and find one of the special eggs.  In the end, it turned out to be an “eggcellent” Easter for everyone.  This delightful book has great vocabulary and is just fun!

We now have a new favorite counting book called Everybunny Count!.  These delightful bunnies are playing hide and seek with fox, and children will get to practice counting on each page.  Besides counting, children can also practice locating rhyming words.  The end is wonderful, with fox having a nice surprise for the bunnies.  This is a great Springtime read.

Bear Needs Help            By:  Sarah S. Brannen

Ages:  Toddlers through Kindergarten

 

This delightful story doesn’t have a lot of words, but the pictures do a wonderful job of telling the story.  Bear has a problem, but has difficulty finding someone willing to help him out.  This story is perfect for predicting and using the pictures to understand why Bear needs help.  This would be a great book to read to children who are beginning to learn how to tie their shoes.

Jamaica’s Find

Ages:  Preschool through Second Grade

 

 

Jamaica stopped at the park to play and found a red hat and a lost stuffed dog.  She took the hat to the lost and found, but took the dog home without trying to find the owner.  She struggled with her decision, but later finds satisfaction in returning the dog to its owner.  In the end, Jamaica makes a new friend.  This is a wonderful story about the rewards of doing the right thing.
