Judy’s Top Ten Posted Read Alouds

*Read to the children in your life every day.  You are giving them a gift that will last a lifetime!

Hello Readers,

I decided to reflect on the 40 Blog entries from this past year and do my personal top 10 list of great children’s books that we have highlighted.  My choices aren’t based on anything other than my pure love for the stories and illustrations.  As I talk to adults about children’s books, many of them remember specific books from their childhood.  For example, a young man was at my home working on my furnace, and as we talked in my office, he looked at a copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar sitting on my desk and immediately began to smile as he remembered the book.  Wow!  Reading to children makes an impact that we cannot underestimate.  So here we go!   Thanks for indulging this enormous love I have for great books for children.

Book #10

Cookies, Bite-Size Life Lessons teaches children true life lessons such as honesty, respect and sharing through the process of making cookies.

Book #9

Ricky, the Rock That Couldn’t Roll is a story about true friendship and overcoming adversity.

Book #8

My Truck is Stuck is just a fun book to read and share.  It does include counting and the importance of team work.

Book #7

Dragons Love Tacos is loved by children because it is about friendly dragons who love tacos, but hate spicy salsa.  When the dragons eat spicy salsa, it is an event to remember.

Book #6

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a classic and should be on every list.  This beautiful book covers counting, days of the week and the life cycle of a butterfly.

Book #5

Little Blue Truck’s rhyming verse and colorful illustrations, tell an amazing story of friendship and the importance of kindness.

Book #4

Mrs. Wishy-Washy’s Farm uses rhyme to tell a story about a cow, pig and duck who learn that the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Book #3

Click, Clack, Moo:  Cows That Type is a wonderful story about cows who negotiate with the farmer to get blankets to stay warm.  The readers will love this story as much as the children hearing it.

Book #2

The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear has always been one of my favorites because of the illustrations.  The expressions on the little mouse’s face always make me smile.

Book #1

Before You Were Mine is totally a personal choice and speaks to the importance of adopting rescue dogs.  When you have a rescue dog from a shelter, you always wonder what happened to him or her prior to being rescued.  My rescue, Jake, is an amazing dog and it is hard to imagine that no one wanted him.  The book tells us that in the end it doesn’t matter, because he is home now.
