What  do Mommies and Daddies do best?  Each child’s response will be based on his or her life experience.  The author gives us many examples of what they do best, but ends with the most important thing of all.  Reader, don’t worry.  Mommies and Daddies can do the same things equally as well.

The author has produced this book in a unique format.  One side of the book is about Mommies and you flip the book over to read about Daddies.  Each of these can also be purchased separately.

Tips for Reading:

  • Modern families are very diverse.  Discuss with the child the people who are part of their family and how their family members help each other.
  • Ask the child to draw a picture of their favorite activity that they share with family members.
  • Have the child contact a family member by phone, face time, or write a note just to say “hello”.
  • Plan a special activity with the child.

Cooking Time:

No Bake Cookies

Cooking together is a perfect activity to share with children.  This simple no bake cookie recipe is a quick and easy recipe that any child would be delighted to make and share with the entire family.  These cookies combine cocoa and oats for a delicious treat.  Children can help by adding the ingredients and helping to drop the cookies onto the waxed paper.

Line cookie sheets with waxed paper.

2 cups sugar

1/3 cup cocoa

1/2 cup butter  (1 stick)

1/2 cup milk

1/3 cup peanut butter  (optional)

3 cups quick oats

2 teaspoons vanilla

3/4 cup chopped pecans  (optional)

  • Put the sugar, cocoa, butter and milk in a saucepan.
  • Over medium to medium high heat, bring the chocolate mixture to a boil.
  • Boil for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  • Remove chocolate mixer from the heat and add the peanut butter.
  • Mix until peanut butter is incorporated.
  • Add the vanilla and stir.
  • Add the oats and nuts (optional).
  • Mix until the oats are totally incorporated.
  • Using a 1 inch melon scoop or teaspoon, drop cookie mixture onto the waxed paper lined cookie sheets.
  • Allow the cookies to dry for 30 minutes.
  • Store in an airtight container.

Makes 2 to 3 dozen, depending on size.
